Mary Lou Larsen passed away on Jan. 3, 2018, at Hood River Care Center of Hood River, Ore. Mary Lou was born on March 7, 1932, and was 85 years of age at the time of her passing.
Services for Mary Lou are planned for Saturday, Jan. 6, with a time of viewing and a chance to meet with her family from 9-11:30 a.m. at Anderson's Tribute Center, and a graveside service at noon at The Upper Valley Parkdale Cemetery, 6917 Allen Road, Parkdale, Ore.
Mary Lou was born in Ione, Ore., to Oliver George and Vivian Alice (Fletcher) Haguewood, and she grew up in Heppner and spent her early years in that area. She married John Junior Lane in 1948, and they were blessed with two boys, Michael and Steven. Her husband was killed in a car wreck in 1950. Mary Lou moved to the Hood River Valley in 1956 with her two young boys. She worked early on for Acree Dairy and later was a long-time employee of Mountain Valley Meats until retiring at age 75. She met and later married Harold Larsen; Harold passed away in 1999.
Mary Lou loved her garden, vegetables and flowers. She was a president of the Parkdale Garden Club for many years and her vegetables and flowers were often blue-ribbon winners at the Hood River County Fair.
In addition to her garden, she always had cows, taking day old calves that she and the boys would nurse and sell. A favorite pet of hers over the years was Sarah, her donkey, that was part of the family farm for almost 20 years.
In addition to her parents and two husbands, she was also preceded in death by her son Steven and step-son Michael Larsen.
Mary Lou is survived by her son Michael Lane (and Susan Gutzler) of Tucson, Ariz.; step-daughter Vickie Fischbach (and Tregg) of San Louis Obispo, Calif.; two brothers, Ronald Haguewood of Ione and Jerry Haguewood of Pendleton, Ore.; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of distant family and many, many friends that she has collected over the years.
