Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Former Cascade Locks resident Marvin L. Hansen Sr., 76, left us Friday morning, May 27, 2011, suddenly and peacefully, while enjoying coffee in his beautiful backyard in Portland, Ore.
Born Nov. 4, 1934, to Arthur and Ethel Hansen in Everett, Wash., Marv was the youngest of their five children, all who preceded him in death.
Marv joined the army at age 16 and served his country during the Korean War, with the 82nd Airborne Division as a paratrooper, which he often reflected on with family and friends. He later enjoyed a career in the banking field, working as a branch manager, in Troutdale, Sandy and Tillamook, Ore.
He retired in 2000, from the Longshoremen's Credit Union in Portland, Ore. Marvin was very active in volunteer service clubs in the communities where he resided.
Marv met the love of his life, Lovella, in Everett; they were married in August of 1957. Marv loved spending time with his family; he would never miss a family reunion, barbecue or a good parade. He would go and do anything his family was involved in such as riding ATVs on the Oregon dunes or snowmobiling the Oregon Cascades, and was even water skiing (showing off) in his late 60s. A true sport and family man.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Lovella; sons Marvin Jr. and Karen, of Cascade Locks, Brian and Carol, of Keno Ore, and Jamie and Lynae, of Waconia, Minn.; daughter, Melynda, and Robert Lawrence, of Portland; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews throughout the United States.
He will be missed by everyone who knew him. Life well lived, Marv.
A military honor guard memorial will be held Friday, June 10, at 11:30 a.m. at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, with private interment to follow at a later date.
