Marta Lynn Trimble

Her parents were divorced in 1950, and Roxemma (Roxie) moved the family to Eugene, Ore., to be near her daughter Betty and her family. She and Lyle began the third grade in Eugene.

Sometime during her school years, other students began to call her Lynn — it rhymed with Lyle. Throughout her life, some continued to call her Marta.

In 1956, Roxie met Archie Wornstaff, and they were married in 1958; the family called him pappie. That same year, 1958, they moved to the Hood River area. They bought a small piece of property near Odell, Ore., where Archie built a house. Lynn and Lyle began the eighth grade there, and the following year entered high school in Odell: Wy’east High School.

They were happy years in high school. Both played in the school band, Lynn as a percussionist, and as a majorette. Further, she was active in Future Nurses of America, and Future Homemakers of America. She also found time to volunteer at the Hood River Memorial Hospital.

The twins graduated from Wy’east in 1963, and then she was enrolled in the nurses training program at Pacific Lutheran University. However, the next year she met and married a young man — Bruce Masterman — and they moved to Seattle. She gave birth to a daughter, Debra, in 1970, and Craig three years later. She adored her children.

In 1983, she began divorce proceedings against Bruce. She also returned to college in the fall, taking classes at North Seattle Community College. She met and began dating a teacher at the college, Don Trimble. The relationship became serious, and they were engaged in March and married in June.

Their two sons, David and Thomas James (TJ) were born during the next four years. They were now a very happy family of six.

In 1989 they joined Haller Lake United Methodist Church, where they were active members for the rest of their lives. Lynn was busy with various activities at HLUMC: committees, choir, Sunday school, and the Leadership Team that she chaired for 12 years.

Lynn received her college degree from Central Washington University in 1992. She began to substitute teach in the Seattle school districts. She also obtained a mathematics endorsement at Seattle Pacific University.

In 1995, she was hired to teach mathematics at Garfield High School. She had 12 wonderful years teaching at GHS. She also served as the advisor to the GHS Key Club — a Kiwanis high school service club. In 2005 she received a prestigious award from the Kiwanis International: the George F. Hixson Award, for very active service to students as the GHS Key Club advisor.

In 1998, the family moved to a new home in Brier, Wash. David and TJ had been very involved in sports and Scouting in Seattle, and they continued those activities in Brier. They went to Mountlake High School, where they both played in the jazz band. Also, Lynn was a chaperone on two trips to Europe with the high school jazz bands.

In 2004, Lynn was diagnosed with cancer, but after two years, her cancer was in remission.

In 2007, Don retired from teaching at NSCC, and Lynn decided to retire from teaching at GHS. She was hired that fall to teach algebra, part-time, at NSCC. She continued teaching algebra at the college through 2013.

Debra had married in 1998, and in 2002 gave birth to their first grandchild, Ariana. Craig’s wife, Molly, gave birth to two daughters in 2008 and 2011, and Lynn had two more beautiful granddaughters. Her grandchildren were so important to her life.

But Don and Lynn also found time to travel. They especially enjoyed their six ocean cruises.

In 2011, Lynn was again diagnosed with cancer. She fought the cancer for the next three years, until her doctor told her that her body could not tolerate any more chemotherapy. She passed away on April 13, 2014.

She is survived by her husband, four adult children and three grandchildren. She is also survived by four siblings, including her twin brother, Lyle McAlexander, who lives in Parkdale, Ore.

A celebration of life was held at Haller Lake UMC on April 25, and her ashes were interred at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Wash., May 30.
