Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Marilyn Winter was born to Clarence O. Johnson and Maxine (Headman) Johnson on Jan. 31, 1941, in White Salmon, joining two older brothers. She passed on April 14, 2019, at her home in Bingen, at the age of 78 surrounded by family.
After schooling in the Bingen-White Salmon area, she married Ron Waldkirch in 1956 and together they had four children. They resided in White Salmon, later moving to Reno, Nev., and then returning to the area to own and operate the Town Tavern in Bingen.
Marilyn then married Kenneth Winter in 1993.
In her early years she enjoyed four-wheeling, water skiing and was a pretty good pool shot. Later she enjoyed knitting and crocheting, fishing and golf. She loved feeding and watching the birds outside her window and playing dominoes and cards with friends. She was a longtime member of Emblem Club and Ladies of the Elks.
Marilyn was preceded in death by both parents and brothers Clarence L. and Merle Robert (Bob) Johnson. She is survived by husband Kenny and her children Merle (Donna), Tracine Bland (Steve), Ronnie Dean, and Dayne (Theresa); along with four grandchildren Jamy Bland, Bryan (Marcie) and Dayne, Jr. (Bree) Waldkirch and Ashley Wilson (Jeff), who have added three great-grandchildren, Alexis, Bryce and Remington.
Her extended step family included granddaughter Jessica Bland Helzer (Grant) and great-grands Gwen and Greyson, Vickie Schliecker (Chris) and grands Natalie and Annie, Kristy Winter and grands Leo and Gabe. These steps added several more greats to the pile as well, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and such.
Never afraid to voice her opinion, Marilyn was loved and will be missed by many.
A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, May 4, 2019, at BPOE 1868 at 2:30 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Heart of Hospice, 2621 Wasco St., Hood River, Ore., 97031.
