Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Margaret Olive Bailey Kennedy passed away May 30, 2015, at the home of her son, Thomas, in White Salmon.
Peggy was the matriarch of the large Kennedy clan, most of whom live in the Bremerton area. Margaret’s childhood was spent in Wyoming, proving up a homestead, and in Missouri, working farms. Her great ambition was to become a professional writer at the encouragement of her high school teachers in Butte, Mont.; however, she set aside that ambition to become the wife of Thomas Kennedy at the age of 17.
Peggy has survived the Depression, World Wars, family tragedies, and economic setbacks with true grit and a contagious sense of humor. In 1972, she became a widow, then married her husband’s cousin, John Kennedy, and became a landed immigrant in Canada for 22 years.
Returning to Bremerton following the death of John, she assumed the role of grandmother, teacher, confidant, counselor, Scrabble opponent, good friend, and critic of her large family. She was well loved because she loved well.
Peggy’s life was centered in her love of family and of God. Only weeks before her death, with help from her daughter-in-law, Peggy supervised a compilation of her “dabblings,” personal writing she’d done over the years, into a book—she was finally a published writer.
She is preceded in death by her parents, all of her siblings, two husbands, Tom and John, one son, Douglas, and one granddaughter, Ann Margaret.
She is survived by daughter, Betty Delcour of Bremerton and Tom Kennedy of White Salmon; 21 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren, and 138 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the LDS Church on Perry Avenue in Bremerton at 1 p.m., Thursday, June 4, 2015, with a family prayer service at 12:30.
