Marc Ian Wixman, 49, passed away Oct. 18, 2017, at his home in Eugene, Ore., with family by his side.
Marc was born June 8, 1968, New York, N.Y., to Harvey and Patricia “Pat” Anne (Lawry) Wixman. He moved with his family to Wichita Falls, Texas, when he was just a year old. They then moved to Portland, Ore., where he attended first grade at Bridlemile School. The family moved to Hood River, Ore., where Marc attended second grade at May Street Elementary School. His family moved once more to Odell, Ore., where Marc attended Mid Valley School for third, fourth and fifth grade. Marc went to junior high at Wy’east, then attended Hood River Valley High School, graduating in 1986.
Marc was in Boy Scouts and would look forward to their pinewood derby each year. He liked mushroom picking, fishing, and riding his 10-speed bike. Marc started skiing when he was 14 years old and then took up snowboarding. Growing up, Marc was quiet but always thinking. He loved brain games, Rubik’s cube, Dungeons and Dragons, chess and he was a very good Go player as an adult.
Marc went square dancing with his family every weekend at the Rockford Grange Hall. He later got into clogging and square dancing. He was part of the Wy’East Whirlers square dancing club.
Upon graduating from Hood River Valley High School, Marc attended college at University of Oregon, where he met Tonya. Marc and Tonya were married in 1996 on his mom and dad’s property. Marc and Tonya shared a love for the Russian language and culture. In 1997, Tonya died in a terrible car accident.
Marc met Melissa in 1999. They had Jordana, and they shared custody of Jordana. He moved to Eugene and was employed as a baker for many years then was a taxi driver, where he met his good friend Lawrence. Marc was a talented poker and Texas Hold ‘Em player. He said card games were his favorite games to play. He took a job as a card dealer in a few poker rooms in Eugene.
Marc was preceded in death by his mother Patricia, and his wife Tonya.
Marc is survived by his daughter Jordana, his father Harvey, his sister Tracy and her children Brandon, Joshua and Anna Smith, his sister Victoria and her daughter Makena Wixman, and his brother Jon and his son Austin Wixman.
Services for Marc are planned for 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 19 at Anderson's Tribute Center. Private graveside rites will follow at a later date at Idlewilde Cemetery of Hood River.
