Lovera L. (Phillips-Willis) “Vera” Budd passed away at Villa Las Palmas Care Center of El Cajon, Calif., on Feb. 1, 2010. She was born June 6, 1940, at Portales, N.M., the sixth child born to Amos and Lela (Ditto) Phillips.
Vera attended Portales schools, until moving to the Hood River Valley. She graduated from Wy’east High School in 1959.
Vera was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at age 20. A sharp, always-smiling “happy camper,” she bravely managed increasing physical disability and spent the last 20 years in care centers.
Vera is survived by her daughter, Kathy Julian, and son-in-law, Dan, of Black Canyon City, Ariz.; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Earlene Lourenco, of La Mesa, Calif.; three brothers, Ben Phillips and his wife, Marge, of Thomas, Okla., Amos Phillips Jr. and his wife, Sherry, of Hood River, Ore., and Carroll Phillips and his wife, Sharon, of Odell, Ore.; stepdaughter Caroline Mesman and her family; and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Irene Klein; and husbands Donald Willis and Don M. Budd.
A service to honor Vera’s life is planned for 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, at Anderson’s Tribute Center. Graveside rites will follow at Pine Grove Butte Cemetery. Viewing is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday.
