Lola Marie Padberg, 76, was born May 1, 1935, in Heppner, Ore., to John Archie Padberg and Susie (Allstott) Padberg (Whitman). She passed away April 18, 2012, at Hood River Care Center, with family at her side.
Lola attended school in Heppner, where she met the love of her life, Allen E. Springer. They were married in Heppner on Nov. 2, 1953 and lived there for two years and their oldest son, Donald, was born there. A short while later they moved to Hood River, Ore., and their family was completed with the births of their daughter, Georgia, and son Jeffery.
After moving to Hood River, Lola worked at Hanby’s Care Center as a certified nurse’s aide. She later worked at Luhr Jensen & Sons, Diamond Fruit Cannery and Duckwall Pooley, from which she retired in 1998.
Lola loved to spend time with her family, traveling, going to the beach, family get-togethers, playing bingo, camping and telling jokes, but most especially just being with her beloved family, friends, and pets.
Lola is survived and will be dearly missed by her loving husband, Allen Springer; her children, Don Springer (Chris) and Jeff Springer (Jennifer), of Hood River, and Georgia Marshall (Bob), of Pendleton, Ore.; eight grandchildren: Katie Smiley (Karl), Tom Springer (Canela) and Ashley Murphy (John), of Hood River, Robert Marshal (Tracy) and Jeremy Marshall (Jackie), of Pendleton, Ivamay Tallman (Wibur), of Condon, Michelle King (Shayln), of Yakima, Wash., and Josh Marshall, of Valdez, Alaska.
She is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren: Brandon and Kyle Smiley, Emily Murphy, Devin, Megan, Ava Ann, Andrea, and Collin Marshall, Tallin, Spencer, Caleb, Ethan and Kyle King, Wesley and TJ Tallman; numerous nieces and nephews; her sister, Juanita Ross (Tex), of Hermiston; and longtime close family friends Marlene and Fred Lahti and Beverly Shapley.
Lola was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Vernon and Archie Padberg.
Services to honor Lola’s life are planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, April 28, at Anderson’s Tribute Center, 1401 Belmont Ave., Hood River. A reception will immediately follow at the West Side Fire Department #1, Rockford Station, 4250 Barrett Drive, Hood River.
Graveside rites will be held the next weekend at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 5, at Lexington Cemetery, Lexington, Ore. Family friend and chaplain of the West Side Fire Department, David Hancock, will officiate.
Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Lola to the West Side Fire Department or Cri Du Cat Syndrome/5P, in care of Anderson’s.
