Linda Lou Miller

Linda graduated from The Dalles High and went to the University of Oregon majoring in Sociology and joining the Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority.  

Linda and John were married September 9, 1967, marking the beginning of a fabulous love story for the next 51 plus years.   Linda was a Navy Wife for 4 years, an adventure that would take her and John to California, Texas and Panama. It was during this time that daughter Michelle and son Craig were born.   Once their time in the military was served, Linda then made sure John completed his education as a Mechanical Engineer at Oregon State University.  

Linda loved managing the family’s home and taking care of her people.  Family always came first.  As John’s career moved along, Linda was involved in all of the school and sports activities of Michelle and Craig as they moved through grade school and high school. It was during these years the family moved from Portland, Oregon to Roscoe, Illinois, to Redmond, Washington and back to Portland.  

Linda worked outside the home when her children were in college – she earned certificates for accounting and computer skills and put them to good use in her roles.   But her true occupation was Homemaker and Family Celebration Organizer Extraordinaire.  None of life’s milestones ever passed without one of Linda’s special and memorable events.  

Her proudest moments were the accomplishments of her children as Michelle graduated from Oregon State University and Craig from Gonzaga University, then Michelle marrying Kevin Schleh and Craig marrying Julie Dean.  Incredibly, her capacity for joy increased when grandgirls, Haley and Payton Schleh, and grandson, Justus Miller became part of her family.  

Linda was a master at turning John’s career moves into a travel adventure.  After the kids were out of the house, Linda and John turned career stops in Boston, Los Gatos, Sacramento and then back to Portland again into adventures in urban living and touring the best restaurants and vineyards within driving distance of their current location.  Linda loved to travel – she and John made sure they enjoyed many US cities, the best resorts and several European countries over the years.  During the last 15 years, Linda focused the travel on their favorite spot in Puerto Vallarta where they always vacationed with family.  

Linda was a victim of metastasized breast cancer, but she did not let the disease define her life and activities.   With the help of OHSU, she lived enjoyable years after the diagnosis.  But, in the end, the disease took her from us way too early.  

A Rosary and Funeral Mass at St. Pius X Catholic Church and an Interment at River View Mausoleum took place on July 26, 2019.  

Linda is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren, her Mom – Norma Massman, and sisters – Carolyn and Nancy, sisters-and brother-in-law – Terry Cornett, Mary Jean Englund and Jeff Miller and many cousins, nieces and nephews in Linda and John’s families.  

We miss her dearly, but are so happy for where she is today and the memories we have of her.
