Lena Marie Edwards, age 53 died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Tuesday March 31, 2015 from complications of cancer. She is now free of pain!
Lena was born Nov 4, 1961 to Eloise (Snow) (Edwards) Duarte and William Melvin Edwards in The Dalles, Ore. She was the fourth child of nine. She grew up in Moro, Ore. and graduated from Goldendale High School in 1980. Shortly after graduating she met and married Richard Bohn. They had two children, Ellen (Bohn) Kilkenny and Edward Bohn. Later she married Carl Gentry and divorced and started advocating for women to stand up for themselves and to stay out of abusive relationships.
She lived in The Dalles, Ore., Phoenix, Ariz., and Lyle, Wash. She eventually returned to her hometown The Dalles, Ore. In 2004 she was diagnosed with breast cancer, while there were many remissions and cancer come backs, she never let the cancer define her. She graduated from Colorado Tech University with a degree in business and started a craft leather business making custom purses, wallets and many other things. She enjoyed doing crafts to keep her busy.
She had a love for cats and even started Veterinary Tech training while living in Arizona, but had to stop due to the return of cancer. She fostered cats while in Phoenix, Ariz., and Lyle, Wash., with only 1 foster fail and helped many an unsocial kitten find new homes.
She is survived by her daughter, Ellen (Bohn) Kilkenny and her husband Patrick, and her son Edward Bohn. Her mother Eloise Duarte. Her sisters, Leta Barclift and husband Tim; Laurie Lane and husband Gary; Louise Edwards; Lucille Johnson and husband Todd; Jessie Duarte, and Cynthia Lane. Her brothers Clifford Edwards; and Clayton Edwards and wife Davida. Many nieces and nephews (great & great, great). Her beloved cats Scrappy, Fizzbomb, Lizzi, and Cleopatra to which she found each a new home prior to becoming too ill to care for them.
She was preceded in death by her father, William Melvin Edwards, her grandparents, Clifford and Zora Snow and cats Lucky, Patches and Cuddles who were all waiting to welcome her home.
She requested that there be no funeral or memorial service, just that her ashes be spread at her favorite place on the Oregon Coast. Her children wish to extend heartfelt appreciation to Providence Hospice of the Gorge for their compassion and care of their mother during her final months. In lieu of flowers we ask that you consider a donation in her memory to Providence Hospice of the Gorge.
My life is at its end but my heart and soul believes that there is no end.
