Kenneth Lee Bergin passed away Oct. 10, 2014, in Lyle, Wash. He was born March 5, 1957, in Spokane, Wash., to Leland and Dorothy Mae Bergin.
Ken attended McLoughlin High School in Milton Freewater, Ore. His early years were spent in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana and California, eventually ending up in the Columbia River Gorge. He worked as department director of Washington Gorge Action Programs in Bingen, Wash., for the last 23 years, during which time he formed many lasting friendships. He married the love of his life, Stephanie Keeling, on Aug. 19, 1999. They have one child, Winter Kaytlin, 15.
He loved motorcycles, fishing, camping, playing pool, and making new friends. He was always willing and able to help a friend when asked. Ken was so strong and stubborn "You can't hurt steel" was a common expression during the many years he had fought cancer, but now the fight is over. He was loved by all and will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his wife, Stephanie, and daughter, Winter, both of Lyle; son Jeremy, sister Linda Smith, of Oklahoma, and numerous very special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leland and Dorothy Bergin, his brothers Jimmy Lee, Dan Martin and Stephen Roy Bergin, and sister Donna Mae Werhan.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to help with expenses be sent to PayPal account at winterangelwb@yahoo.com. Donation jars will also be available at the memorial service.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 18, at 3 p.m. at the Ynot, located at the corner of Highway 14 and Dallesport Road in Dallesport, Wash.
