Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Kelly Maureen Bowers, the daughter of the late A. Jean Bowers, died peacefully in her home on Nov. 25, 2018. She was born Feb. 1, 1968, in Mansfield, Ohio, the fifth of six children.
She later moved to Hood River, Ore., in 1978, graduating in 1986 as valedictorian of her class from Hood River Valley High School.
Kelly was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and took great delight in exploring God’s word the Bible and sharing what she found with others. She was a full-time minister for 27 years, even traveling to Ecuador to share the Bible’s message. She volunteered her time to be involved in the construction of Kingdom Halls for over a decade. She also loved to read, watch movies and explore her family genealogy.
The last five and a half years of her life was spent as the primary caregiver of her mother Jean, whom she selflessly cared for until Jean’s death in August. She dearly loved her cat, Bridget.
In addition to her mother, Kelly was preceded in death by her younger brother, Jeff, his wife, Carolyn, and Jeff’s son and daughter, Jeffrey and Kaija. She is survived by her brother, Jerry Bowers of Hood River; Melinda Libby of Odell; Paul Bowers of The Dalles; Kathy Madsen of Madras; numerous nieces and nephews; and her uncle, Jim Conner of North Olmsted, Ohio.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1619 Tucker Road, Hood River.
