John Willard Thompson passed away at his home on Nov. 18, 2017. He was 74 years old at the time of his death. John was born on June 19, 1943, in Sundance, Wyo. He is the son of John Thompson and Mildred Marguerite Baker.
When John was 5 years old, the family moved from their cattle ranch in the Pine Ridge area, near Moorcroft, Wyo., to northern Idaho. The family eventually settled in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, where John attended school and graduated from Bonners Ferry High School in 1962.
John enlisted in the Army and served from 1963 to 1966 where he was stationed in western Germany. He received an Honorable Discharge and when released, he came to Bingen where he lived with his brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Darlene Thompson, for about a year.
He moved to White Salmon and purchased property on Loop Road where he built his home with help from his brother, Bob, and other friends.
When John moved to the area he worked at SDS Lumber Company; after a few years, he went to work for Broughton Lumber Company until its close, he then returned to SDS until his retirement.
John enjoyed woodworking and fixing things.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother, his sister Betty Thompson, and his brother William Robert (Bob) Thompson.
He is survived by his nieces and nephew; Marilyn Lilly of White Salmon, Roberta Wood of Underwood, Robert Thompson of Goldendale, and Rachel Simpson of Kennewick.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018, at 10 a.m. at Gardner Funeral Home.
