John Edward Phelps passed away May 15, 2018, at Mid-Columbia Medical Center in The Dalles, Ore. John was born March 27, 1933, and was 85 years of age at the time of his passing.
He was the son of Edward Abbott and Viola Miriam (Puutio) Phelps and was born in Portland, Ore., but resided in Hood River, Ore., until he was drafted by the United States Army in the mid-1950s. John served in the Army until his discharge in 1962. He worked as a salesman for Hostess until his retirement in the early 1990s.
John is survived by his son Christopher Phelps of Springfield, Va., daughters Valerie Grant, Stacy Rust, and Tiffany Granmo, all of Vancouver, Wash., eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
