Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Jerry Donald Osbourn, of Hood River, Ore., passed away in the early morning on May 2 at the Hood River Care Center due to natural causes. Jerry was born to William Franklin Osbourn and Dorothy Jewel Cannon Osbourn on June 26, 1937, in Neosho, Mo., and was the first of four sons. His brothers, Johnie Lee Osbourn, Jimmie Leroy Osbourn and Jackie Darrel Osbourn survive him, along with his devoted wife Phillis Jean Vosberg Osbourn, daughters Jeanne Dianne Osbourn Logan, Donna Renee Osbourn Church and Lisa Marlene Osbourn, grandchildren Christopher Michael Messer, Valarie Mae Hoban, Elise Rochelle Logan, Justine Danielle Logan, and great grandchildren Kaelan Zachery Anderson Messer, Zerita Lee Logan and Elijah Logan.
In 1947, Jerry’s family moved from Watts, Okla., to Hood River, where Jerry graduated high school in 1956. He excelled in mathematics and even solved complicated equations that had stumped his instructor. After graduation, Jerry was a river pilot for Inland Navigation along the Columbia River. Jerry was working for Neal Creek Mill when he married his beloved wife, Phillis.
Shortly after they wed, Jerry and Phillis moved to Southern California, where all three of his daughters were born. Jerry loved music and was self-taught in both guitar and bass guitar. He played with family and friends and bands in California before moving back to Hood River, where he played with a local band. Jerry volunteered at the Odell Fire Department during the first decade or so after his return and worked at Hanel’s Lumber Mill on green chain and other duties before retiring there as a saw filer.
After retiring, Jerry tore up the greens every morning the weather allowed at the Hood River Golf Course and enjoyed his time with family. Family will gather privately in the future at River of Live Assembly Church in Hood River to celebrate Jerry’s richly blessed life. He will be greatly missed.
Arrangements are under the direction of Anderson’s Tribute Center (Funerals • Receptions • Cremations), 1401 Belmont Ave., Hood River.
