Glen V. Ufford, of Hood River, Ore., passed away Thursday, Aug. 6, 2015, at his home with family at his side. Glen was born Feb. 23, 1926, to Chester C. Ufford and Eva H. Moon in Alliance, Neb. Glen was one of eight children. He spent his younger life in Nebraska, Idaho and Oregon. He graduated from high school in Caldwell, Idaho in 1944.
He joined the Navy in 1944 and served as a munitions specialist until the end of World War II.
Glen married Betty A. Gregory in 1950 in North Bend, Ore. He worked high line construction for Pacific Power and lived many places in Oregon before settling in Bend. His job took him to Yakima, Hood River, Portland, Medford and Laramie, Wyo., where he retired after 30 years with Pacific Power as district line superintendent.
Glen was a member of the IBEW for 68 years and a member of the Elks for 45 years. He enjoyed golf, fishing, traveling and woodworking, and had a life-long love of baseball. He coached Little League for many years. Family time was Glen’s favorite pastime. He enjoyed teaching and playing cards with his children and grandchildren.
Glen is survived by his wife of almost 65 years, Betty; children John Ufford (Lee Ann) of Steilacoom, Wash., Janice Chandler (Don) of Hood River, Paul Ufford (Lori) of The Dalles, and Pattie Monahan (Mike) of Mt. Hood; grandchildren Kate Ufford Anderson, Matthew Ufford, Kayla Bohince and Scott Monahan; great-grandchildren Nora Anderson, Gwen Anderson and Lucy Ufford; and a sister, Doris Coombs of Stanfield, Ore.
Glen was proceeded in death by his parents and siblings Dolly, Wayne, Evelyn, Avis, Faye and Jean.
Private family services with military honors performed by the Navy preceded this announcement. There will be a gathering for friends to share with family announced at a later date.
