Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Gary LeRoy Upton, 58, longtime resident of Trout Lake and current resident of Glenwood, went to be with our Lord, with his loving family by his side, on Monday, May 13, 2019, at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Ore., after a courageous battle following heart surgery.
Gary was born August 21, 1960, at The Dalles, Ore., to Geraldine Locke Combelic and Vernon Glen Upton.
The majority of Gary’s life was spent in Trout Lake and Glenwood, although he worked in Vancouver, as a loyal and dedicated state employee working for Department of Transportation and Labor Industries as an Electrical Inspector.
Gary had a true passion for hunting along with his brother Gerry and his son Garrett, as well as his many hound dogs while hunting for cougar and bear. He was also a great hunter of deer, elk and of course raccoons. Gary had some pretty intense hunting stories and was great at telling them.
Gary’s happy place was in the mountains, so he spent a lot of time there and even more time with his family, whom he loved with all of his heart.
Gary was a kind man who always had a smile on his face and something funny to tell making you smile too. Gary had a true talent of bringing laughter to any situation, and a true “zest” for life. Not enough can be said about the joy that he brought to all around him. Family and friends will cherish memories of his wonderful soul and thoughtful nature.
Gary is lovingly survived by his children: Jessica Upton (Brian Thelander), Katrina Jones (Austin), Garrett Upton and his treasured grandsons, Emerson and Everett Thelander; his mother Geraldine Locke Combelic and father VerNon Glen Upton (Dorothy); his Uncle Melvin Locke (Elvie); and also Uncles Clair Upton, Steven Shapiro (Nezra), and Harry Shapiro (Susie); brothers Gerald Upton and Jim Upton and sisters: Glenda Eddy (Keith), Gloria Schilperoort, Gaye Huyter (Matt), Gina Combelic (Kenny Stice), and Lori Upton Saline. Also, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
Gary is predeceased by his grandparents Stanley and Aletha “Babe” Locke, and his Aunt Cheryl Locke-Fernandez.
Memorial services will be held at the Mt. Adams Elks Lodge in White Salmon on Saturday, June 29, 2019, at 2 p.m.
