Frederick Paul Dethman “Fred” passed away Nov. 15, 2016, at his home in Hood River, Ore., surrounded by family. Fred was born Dec. 3, 1931, and was 84.
Fred was born in Hood River to Frederick Theodore and Johanna Nanny (Petersen) Dethman. Fred was a life-long resident of Hood River and only moved away when he served our country from 1951-1955 in the United States Airforce during the Korean War.
On May 8, 1955, a short three months after his return from the Air Force, he married Joanne Lemley and they enjoyed 44 years together before she passed away on July 24, 1999. Fred and Joanne were blessed with three children, David, Doug and Dana.
Fred worked in the timber industry over the years as a log scaler. He enjoyed taking care of the family homestead. He was a member of The Elks Lodge and a board member of The West Side Fire Department.
In his later years, he and his companion, Betty “Bea” Sieverkropp, enjoyed their many trips around the country and even to Germany with Geri and Chuck, his sister and brother-in-law.
Fred is survived and will be dearly missed by, Betty “Bea” Sieverkropp, son, Doug (and wife, Karen) Dethman of Hood River, daughter, Dana Dethman ( and “Mike” Walston) of Hood River, grandchildren Ryan, Sarah and Mitch, great grandchildren Luke and Keely, sister Geri Cooper of Hood River, thirteen nieces and nephews, and many, many friends he has collected over the years. In addition to his parents and wife, Joanne, Fred was also preceded in death by a sister, Doris, and son, David.
A service to celebrate Fred’s life and mourn his passing is planned for 11 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 4 at Anderson's Tribute Center (Funerals • Receptions • Cremations), 1401 Belmont Avenue, Hood River.
Graveside services will follow at a later date at the Pine Grove Butte Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Fred's name to the Westside Fire Department, 1185 Tucker Rd.
