Eugene “Gene” Burch passed away April 20, 2017, at the Oregon Veteran’s Home in The Dalles, Ore. Gene was born Feb. 21, 1926, and was 91 years of age at the time of his passing.
Gene was born in Louisville, Ky., to Minnie Frances (Maheffy) Burch. In February of 1945, Gene joined the Army and served in World War II. After serving in the war, Gene worked as a machinist, where he helped build the parts for the first lunar mission rocket.
On Aug. 26, 1966, Gene married Thelma Potter in Denver, Colo. Together they raised two children.
Gene is survived and will be dearly missed by his wife, Thelma Burch of Hood River, Ore.; children, Bryan Burch of Portland, Ore. and Brenda (and husband, Robert) Sanchez of Hood River; sister Ruth Spaeth of Frankfurt, Ky.; granddaughter Electra Curl and her husband David; and grandson Daniel Sanchez. He was preceded in death by his mother, three brothers (Finley, Earl and Lawrence) and two sisters (Mary and Martha).
Services are planned to honor Gene’s life and mourn his passing at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 27 at Anderson’s Tribute Center (Funerals • Receptions • Cremations), 1401 Belmont Ave., Hood River. Friends are invited to meet with family during a time of viewing Wednesday evening from 4-6 p.m., also at Anderson’s. Gene will be laid to rest at Mountain View Cemetery of Hood River.
