Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Edward Oliver Holmer died Jan. 4, 2013, of liver cancer. He was born Aug. 13, 1953, in Omaha, Neb., where he attended high school. After visiting his grandfather in Portland, Ore., Ed fell in love with the Northwest and moved to Portland in 1974. He married Christie Lynn St. Martin in 1979.
Ed’s love of cycling started when he was 13 and continued with his new home in the Northwest. Ed was a manufacturer’s rep in the biking industry until he became co-owner of a bike shop in Hood River, Mountain View Cycles, which prompted his and Christie’s relocation to this new community.
He sold the business in 1996 and started a new career in real estate, where his primary place of employment was Windermere Glenn Taylor Real Estate. Ed retired from real estate in November 2012.
Ed was a huge music aficionado, and collecting LPs and music equipment was a huge part of his life. His other hobbies included photography, cooking and taking care of Christie.
Ed and Christie had an adventure-filled life, full of camping, cycling and friends.
Ed is survived by his spouse, Christie St. Martin; by his parents, Gordon and Bonnie Holmer; by his child, Shea Holmer, daughter-in-law Melissa and grandchildren Kane and Aubrey.
A celebration of life and potluck is planned for Jan. 19 at 4 p.m. at Hood River Golf and Country Club, 1850 Country Club Road. It would help the family if those planning to attend would RSVP to Kim Chadney at lifeinthegorge@gmail.com or 541-490-3147.
Remembrances may be made to Providence Hospice of the Gorge.
Arrangements are under the direction of Anderson’s Tribute Center (Funerals, Receptions, Cremations), 1401 Belmont Ave., Hood River, OR 97031; 541-386-1000. Please visit www.andersonstributecenter.com to leave a note of condolence for family.
