Edward "Ed" Milton Taylor, 85, of Hood River, Ore., passed from this life to be at home with God on July 5, 2011 after battling lung cancer. The younger of two children, Ed was born in Denver, Colo., on April 25, 1926, to Charles and Margaret Gallatin-Taylor.
Raised in Bakersfield and Oakland, Ed later moved with his family to Los Angeles Calif. Ed joined the U.S. Navy, serving from 1944 to 1946. Following an honorable discharge, Ed married Viva Nell Walters on Jan. 7, 1947. Ed and Nell celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary in 2011.
Ed retired from United Airlines Air-Freight in 1983 and enjoyed gardening, growing orchids, Christian fellowship and singing, jig-saw puzzles, barbershop music and airplanes.
Ed is survived by his wife, Nell, and their four children: Wayne and Colleen Taylor, of Sandy, Ore., Nancy and James Hinds, of Scappoose Ore., Ellen and Robert Brockman, of Monroe, Wash., and Diane and Stephen Lord, of Liberty, Mo.; 17 grandchildren and 4½ great-grandchildren.
A kind and humble gentleman who loved God, Ed was faithful to the end. From the early days Ed taught his family to worship God regularly on the first day of the week. Blessed with a beautiful bass voice Ed loved to sing, serving as a church song leader and Bible teacher.
Ed also served the church as an elder in Sandy, Ore., Mountlake Terrace, Wash., and Hood River, Ore., Churches of Christ.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents and sister Martha Jean Taylor-Cain.
A celebration of life was held July 11 at the Hood River Church of Christ followed by a graveside service and reception.
