Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Donna Kaye Frey of Trout Creek, Mont., was born on April 10, 1961, in White Salmon, to Dan and Linda (nee Thornton) Frey and passed away at Kalispell Regional Medical Center in Kalispell, Mont., on June 19, 2018, from complications of cancer at the age of 57.
After her parents’ divorce, she moved with her mother and spent her early years in Packwood, before moving to and graduating from Trout Lake High School in 1979. After high school, she moved to Goldendale, where she met and married Tony Popenoe. Two sons, Casey Popenoe and Richard Popenoe were born of this union. The couple later divorced.
In the late 1990’s, Donna moved Hamilton, Mont., and later to a small farm in Trout Creek.
Donna loved animals especially dogs. She bred and raised Miniature Schnauzers. The meticulous manner in which she approached grooming and upbringing resulted in beautiful dogs that were highly sought after.
Naturally outgoing, she knew no strangers. Her compassion and sensitivity were freely given to over a dozen people in their last days as she provided end of life care to them.
She is survived by companion Darryl Thomas, Trout Creek, Mont.; father and step-mother Dan and Joan Frey of Lyle; sons Casey (Kristi) Popenoe, Fairbanks, Alaska, and Richard Popenoe, Hamilton, Mont.; siblings Deborah Frey, Texas; Alan (Renee) Warner, BZ Corner; Merina Chase (Steve Barnett), Gresham, Ore.; Dan (Candace) Chase, Lyle; Connie (David) Anderson, Arlington, Ore.; grandchildren Michael, Malissa and Ciara Popenoe.
