Dona Rae Williams passed away Oct. 28, 2018, at home surrounded by loved ones. Dona was born June 19, 1935, and was 83 years old. She was born in Lacrosse, Wisc., and was an only child to Lawrence and Ester Van Riper.
Dona moved to Hood River at a young age and attended schools in Hood River. During her junior year, Dona moved to Longview, Wash., where she graduated from high school. She moved back to Hood River after high school and on June 18, 1955, Dona married Clyde Lee Williams in Hood River at Immanuel Lutheran Church. They were blessed with 58 years of marriage and three children, Cindy, Larry and Tami.
Dona first worked at United Telephone Company before buying and operating the Paradise Motel and apartments, where she worked until she sold it and retired after 48 years. She enjoyed time with her family, as well as cooking, crocheting and working with her flowers. Dona loved going to the Elks Club and playing bingo and dominoes. She also loved going to church and attending her sorority functions.
Dona is survived by her three children, Cindy (Mike) Vanek, Larry (Lisa) Williams and Tami Seibert; six grandchildren, Steffany, Shelby, Adam, Tyler, Morgan and Hailee; and four great-grandchildren, Marlee, Mahlea, Eliott and Reagan. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Clyde.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are encouraged to be made in Dona’s name to Immanuel Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society, c/o Anderson’s Tribute Center (1401 Belmont Ave, Hood River, OR 97031). The family would like to share a special thank you to Dr. Buser, Bobbi’s Way and Heart of Hospice.
A viewing will be held from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3, followed by a service at 11 a.m. at Anderson’s Tribute Center. Light refreshments will be served following the service, and then a graveside will be held at Idlewilde Cemetery, 980 Tucker Road, Hood River.
