With his children by his side, Donald (Don) Guy Larsen passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at the age of 79.
Don was born in Hood River, Ore. He grew up in White Salmon but lived in Germany during his service in the Army, in Hollywood for a year when he tried to be an actor, and then later in San Francisco and Seattle.
He was a lifelong proud Husky. His first career was working as a copy repair tech at Xerox for 25 years. Both sets of his grandparents were early pioneers in White Salmon. He would return there to begin his second career by taking over the family farm where he grew wine grapes and some of the finest cherries you’ll ever taste!
He took a lot of pride in being the third generation custodian of the farm homesteaded by his grandparents, immigrants from Norway, and then run by his parents. He successfully passed the farm to his kids who now takeover as the 4th generation. Nothing made him happier than looking out his window on the farm and seeing the orchard, vineyard and Mt. Hood in the distance.
He loved playing and watching golf. He also loved getting together with his friends at the Elks Club for drinks, playing solo and cribbage and just being social. Don had many friends because he knew how to be a good friend. He will be remembered fondly for his storytelling and his ability to make people smile.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harold (Larry) Larsen, his mother, Mildred Crow Larsen, and his brother, Gail Larsen. He is also preceded in death by two wives, Inger Larsen and Sara Larsen.
He is survived by his three children, Gail Larsen, Kim Larsen and Dawn Larsen, his son-in-law, Doug Ealley, his grandchildren, Sierra Larsen, Jered Larsen, Julieanna Scott, Alexander Ealley, Ashleigh Banford, Rebecca Winfrey, Erica Sondergaard and Joni Castro as well as eight great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind a wonderful lady, Marian Forbert, who brought him a lot of love and joy in the last years of his life. He will be loved and missed by all.
The family will host a celebration of his life at the Mt. Adams Elks Club on Saturday, April 9, 2016, at 3 p.m.
