Dennis Leslie Voigt passed away at his home on Oct. 12, 2017, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Denny was born on Nov. 11, 1953, in White Salmon, to Leslie (Windy) and Mary Ann (Holtmann) Voigt.
Most of Denny’s life was spent in BZ Corner, playing in the back yards of his neighborhood friends as a child, exploring the river and mountains as a teenager, and being the self-appointed mayor for many years as an adult. Denny graduated from Columbia High School and continued his education in “The School of Life.”
Denny married Sonia Chacon in 2011.
Dennis worked in the timber industry his entire life, starting out by learning how to cut trees with his dad Windy and his Uncle Bob. Over the years besides being a feller, he was also a partner in logging companies, first “Voigt and Son Logging” and more recent “WoodBee Logging.” At the end of his working career Denny dropped back to his true joy of being a feller.
His office was the woods and his window provided the best views one could ask for. When a difficult area needed cut, Denny would get the call. He was never without a job as his skill with a saw and his work ethic earned him industry-wide respect.
In his spare time Denny loved NASCAR races, cheering for the Oakland Raiders, spoiling his German Shepherds, hunting wild mushrooms, and woodworking. Denny built his own home with a lot of material that came from the trees he fell, rough cut at the Trout Lake mill, finish cut to dimension in the garage and nailed into place on his home.
Denny was talented and could fabricate anything out of wood and produced some hardwood furniture in the last few years that will continue to be admired for decades to come. Denny was hard working, independent and fought his battle with strength and dignity.
Denny is survived by his wife Sonia, mother Mary Ann, brother Don, sisters Marilyn Chapman and Judy Gross, and stepchildren Brenden and Erica Hogberg; four grandchildren Kacey, Taiya, Hardy, and Aleric Hogberg; nephews Kevin and Billy Gross and great nephews William and Kaseton Gross; nieces Nessa and Alena Voigt and great nieces Ashley and Whittney Gross. In addition, he is survived by numerous uncles, aunts, first cousins and first cousins once removed and in-laws and out-laws.
Denny will be buried at the Trout Lake Cemetery. Denny is preceded in death by his dad Windy, and previous wife Tammy (Turner) Voigt.

The Voigt family invites you to a “Celebration of Life” for Denny at the Trout Lake School on Sunday, Oct. 22, 2017, at 1 p.m. We welcome you to bring a memory or story to share. A “Going Away Party” will follow the Celebration of Life at the Trout Lake Country Inn.
