David Orlo Child passed away at his home in White Salmon on April 27, 2018, at the age of 88. Mr. Child was born in Gresham, Oregon on March 2, 1930, to Winifred May (Bartlemay) and Orton Kenneth Child.
David spent his younger years in Boring, Ore. The family moved to the Gorge area and he went to school in Mountain Brook. On May 4, 1949, he married Leggitta “Buck” Cox in Bingen. Mr. Child was a supervisor at Mt. Adams Timber and also worked for SDS Lumber Company.
Snowmobiling, motorbikes, and racing stock cars were some of David’s pastimes, as well as fishing and hunting. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge.
Mr. Child will be missed by his wife Buck Child of White Salmon; son Kenneth Child and his wife Janelle of White Salmon; brothers Dale Child and his wife Lilianna of Spokane, Larry Child and his wife Dorothy of Payette, Idaho, and Gary Child of Pahrump, Nev.; grandchildren and their spouses Sean and Chrissy Child of Vancouver, and Amy and Ben Taylor of Alexandria, Va.; and two great-grandchildren, Justice and Kadence.
The family would like to thank “the gang” for always being there for Davy and Buck, Heart of Hospice, Hearts of Gold Caregivers (they are the best!), Dr. LaBerge and Deana Dahl.
There will be no funeral.
