Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Daren Lee McCafferty was born Dec. 11, 1953, in Hood River, Ore. He fought a short battle with lung cancer and passed away Jan. 17, 2017, at home with his wife and daughter by his side.
Daren lived a fulfilled life; he enjoyed hunting, fishing, working on classic cars, building things and cooking. He was a long-time employee of the Hanel Lumber Company, later known as Hanel Development. Daren made many close friends during his career and was very fond of the people who worked closely with him. He was a grand story teller and loved sharing his wisdom and life experiences with the people around him. Daren retired after 37 years and continued to work out of his home shop, building things and restoring his classic cars, including his last great masterpiece, a custom Rat Rod built from scrap truck parts.
Daren is survived by his wife, Martha, of 45 years. They were childhood sweethearts and wed Dec. 22, 1971. They built their family home together as they raised three children, Michael, Mitchell and Michelle. Daren enjoyed watching his five granddaughters, Amanda, Kayla, Alexis, Gracie and Addison, grow up and it always put a smile on his face to see them. He leaves behind two sisters, Donna and Rose, one brother, Gale, and many close friends and family members.
Daren joins many family members and friends that have preceded him in death, including his mother Edith Elward, father Norman, stepfather Don Elward, sister Sharon and many close friends and family members.
We invite family and friends to join us to celebrate his life with a potluck gathering at the Parkdale Community Center on Jan. 28 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Parkdale Fire Department or Providence Hospice of Hood River.
Arrangements are under the direction of Anderson's Tribute Center. Visit www.AndersonsTributeCenter.com to leave a note of condolence for the family.
