Colleen (Connie) Anne Campbell passed away peacefully at her Parkdale, Ore., home in her loving children’s arms, with six of her seven children present, on Feb. 3, 2018. She was born April 16, 1940, in Miles City Mont., the only child of William Curts and Alice Gar.
Connie was raised in Montana by her parents. She would spend part of her summer in Libby, Mont., and the remainder at the ranch near Roy, Mont. She had a passion for horses. It began with Pony, Little Roam, and on to Cherry Pie, her favorite. She loved to read and take photos. Attending high school in Roy, this handsome man was driving through and had to stop his truck in the middle of the road as this beautiful woman was crossing the street to go to the post office. He said to himself, “I am going to marry that beauty,” and he did — for a lifetime.
Colleen Curts and Everett Campbell were married on Sept. 6, 1956, and moved to the family ranch for five years. He worked for several ranches before going into construction. He enjoyed playing in a country band, hunting and being with his family.
In 1963, construction moved their family to Parkdale. This is where Connie began packing fruit for Diamond Fruit Company. They stayed in Parkdale until 1979, when they moved to Mitchell, Ore., with their family to pursue Everett’s love of working on a cattle ranch again. They returned to Parkdale in 1985.
Connie worked for the Hood River County School District. She also worked for Safeway until she retired. Her favorite job was working for her friend Penny Edelman, a very special friend in her life. In retirement, she enjoyed spending her peaceful life with Everett on Miller Road, where they took many walks and enjoyed their gardens. She loved to sit in the sun and read a special book. Elk hunting camp was a special time for them. They would be surrounded by their children, grandchildren, and special friend Matt. You would always find a great meal and a game of cribbage. Their family reunion once a year, where she enjoyed the quilts, silent auction, and many stories, was a special event and never missed. Connie also enjoyed her time raising her family and being a Mom.
She was surrounded by many loved ones at the time of his passing. She will be missed by many.
Connie is survived by seven children, six daughters and one son: Alice and Ken Clarke, of Parkdale, Shirley Lemon of Parkdale, Nyla and David Moncey of Grand Junction, Colo., Billie Jean and Jim Norman, of Redmond, Ore., Evelyn Summers and Frank, of Prineville, Ore., Stan and Lacy Campbell, of Parkdale, and Nichole and Tim Harris, of Vancouver, Wash.; siblings Dale Gar, Jerry Gar, Kathy Fink, Linda and Curtis Hansen, Lucille Gar, Jim Gar, Eileen and Arthur Nelson, and Dave and Shannon Gar, stepfather Stan Gar, brother and sisters-in-law Alvin Campbell, Eula Reynolds, Maxine Doney, Grace Lucky and Melven and Margaret Campbell; 21 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration life will be held at noon on Feb. 17 at the Mt. Hood Town Hall, 6575 Highway 35, Mt. Hood, Ore. Connie would love for you to celebrate and tell your favorite story. Join the family for food and drink.
The family gives a special thank you to Providence Hospice and Crystal, who gave Connie such great care, the wonderful home care nurses and Nathan Clarke, Kenny Merz and all of the volunteers at the Parkdale Fire Department who were always there in time of need.
