Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
True to his playful sense of humor and one of his unforgettable funny phrases, “Here today. Gone to Maui,” Clifford Ray Eaves Jr. went to be with the Lord on Nov. 9, 2017, in Maui County, Hawaii. California born (1944) and raised, he attended Whittier High School and was a U.S. Army veteran stationed in Germany. Cliff became a draftsman during his 40-year employment with California-based Washington Iron. As a structural detailer, he worked on such projects as the World Trade Center, Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean, the San Francisco Library and the J.P. Getty Museum. When he moved to the Columbia River Gorge in the 1980s, his passion for cycling the Krep’s Ranch and Hospital Hill route inspired him to open the Sunset Cycle bicycle shop in White Salmon, Wash.
In 1992, Cliff and Debbie, a Hood River County School District elementary teacher, were married in Hood River, Ore. They spent 25 wonderful years together sharing countless life activities, helping others, traveling, snow and water skiing and going to old car shows. Recently fishing became his budding interest as well.
For the last few years, he especially enjoyed volunteering with the Vineyard Christian Fellowship Awana Truth ‘n Training group, guiding third to fifth graders to know, love and serve the Lord Jesus Christ. Cliff loved all kids because he was the biggest kid of them all.
Godly man, husband, father and grandfather and godly friend, Cliff was loved by so many, including nine of his “very special kids,” Brendan, Chris, Andrea, Heather, Kevin, Andrew, Tammy, Caleb, and Miranda. His grandkids are Brian, Shannon, Brendan, Jr., Karissa, Rachel, Jenna, Brady, Blake, Garret, Luke and Magnus, and his great-grandkids are Jake, Riley, Jack, Makenna and Karalyn. He was blessed and is survived by his one and only beloved sister, Carol Eaves Brunni, as well.
Cliff’s love and passion for the Lord was the most precious and vital gift he desired to give to everyone he encountered. A life celebration of Clifford Eaves will be at 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 1 at the Vineyard Christian Fellowship, 508 Ninth St., Hood River. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research would be appreciated.
