Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
June Moore, longtime resident of the Pine Grove community, passed away June 27, 2012, at Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital.
As the third of three daughters, she was born Clara June Hunziker on June 30, 1928, in Bryn Mawr, King County, Wash., to Glenn and Clara (Ingraham) Hunziker. The family soon moved to Colorado, where she grew up in Loveland during the Depression years.
In 1942 as a teenager she moved with her family to the Hood River Valley. June graduated from Hood River High School in 1947.
On April 4, 1948, she married Allen E. Moore at the Pine Grove Methodist Church. They had three children: Patrick Allen, Earl Bruce and Mary Elizabeth.
June was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. All of her grandkids were her life. She was active with many organizations in Pine Grove, including Parent-Teachers Association, Grange as a member of the Women's Activities Committee and Methodist Church as a trustee.
June was also a member of the Soroptimist International of Hood River, a Cub Scout Den Mother and 4-H Leader. She worked diligently on the Blossom Day Smorgasbord and Blossom Day Princess Program as well as the Wy'east Scholarship Spaghetti Dinner. She was always willing to lend a helping hand in other community activities.
In her spare time she was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting, sewing and crafts.
June also worked along with Allen at the family-owned Moore Orchards Inc. for all of their married life. The family received recognition as the Oregon Outstanding Farm Family of 1989, awarded by the Oregon Farm Bureau.
Allen and June retired in 1995 after they had spent more than 50 years helping in the growing and packing of fruit from the family orchards and neighboring farms.
Also surviving are great-grandchildren Michael Spring, Ryan, Austin and Weston Sieverkropp, Samantha and Mija Lindquist, Bailey Hammel, Gracee and Kloee Dillingham, Koen Moore and Madeline Elizabeth Peters; as well as three nieces and a nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters Irene and Maxine.
