Charles Allan Deach passed away with family by his side July 26, 2018, in Hood River, Ore. Charles was born Dec. 20, 1917, in Yamhill, Ore., to Charles Arthur and Clara Estelle (Miller) Deach.
Charles grew up and attended Yamhill schools until he graduated and moved to Bend, Ore. There, he met his true love, Mary Gladys Cunningham. They were married Sept. 30, 1944, and celebrated 60 wonderful years of marriage. After marriage, they lived in Corbett, Ore. for a while until they decided to settle in the Hood River Valley.
Together they had four children, Mary Susan, Charles Jr., Carolyn and Catherine. Charles and Mary were lifelong Christians dedicated to raising their children in a loving Christian home.
After settling in the area, Charles became an orchardist for 28 years. Later, he was the manager of the Hood River Irrigation District. He loved operating heavy equipment and spent his last working years at the City of Hood River Public Works Department, retiring in 1987. He was a volunteer with the Parkdale Fire Department and later the West Side Fire Department. He was a search and rescue mission pilot with the Hood River Civil Air Patrol.
He loved his family and was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather and uncle. He enjoyed flying, boating, biking, and hiking. The family has long-lasting memories of when they would all enjoy these activities together.
Charles loved music and was an excellent singer. The family knew that as soon as they got in the car, it meant a car ride full of music and singing together.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Mary. He is survived by his children, Mary Susan Doren (John) of Fairbanks, Alaska, Charles Deach Jr. (Kathi) of Lyle, Wash., Carolyn Deach ( John) of Hood River, and Catherine Princehouse (Rick) of Hood River; grandchildren, Lori (Dave), Becky (Andrew), Jeremy, Jason, Matthew (Emily), Steve (Raquel), Jocelyn (Kris), Rachael, Alex and Melissa (Ben); great-grandchildren, Traisha (Sonny), Preston (Mary), Jordan, Ashton, Paige, Adalia, Charlie, Madison, Alena and Noah; and great-great-grandchildren, Natori, Johnny, Bailey, Phoebe and Olivia.
Graveside rites were held July 30 at Upper Valley Cemetery, 6917 Allen Road, Parkdale. The family of Charles would like to thank all of those who have reached out to them during this difficult time.
