Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Barbara Annie (Snelgrove) Palmer, 86, died Oct. 2, 2014, at home in White Salmon. She was born Nov. 23, 1926, in Bromley Kent, England, to Ellen (Nellie) and George Snelgrove.
Barb met her “cowboy” and love of her life, Walter (Walt) at a dance during WW II. They were married March 4, 1946 in Chicago, Ill. They moved to Armour, S.D., and began life together. She was the proud mother of 3 sons, Adrian (Ace), Brian and Colin.
The family moved to the Northwest in search of a better life and settled in White Salmon in 1954. Barbara worked seasonally sorting fruit while the boys were young. She later earned her cosmetology certificate and worked as a beautician.
Upon retiring, she and Walt enjoyed many trips in their 5th wheel. She loved the beach and combing the shops for a special treasure.
A longtime member of Bethel Congregational Church, Barb served as Sunday School teacher, in women’s ministry and sang in the choir. She enjoyed singing in the Community Choir and loved attending concerts, plays and community events. As an avid baker, she blessed many with her homemade bread, casseroles, pies and cookies.
She is survived by her sons, Adrian (Jane), Brian (Lila) and Colin; granddaughters Abby Woelfel and Mara Palmer; 2 great-grandsons Palmer and Ian; brother Brian (Iris); sister-in-law Pam; many nieces and nephews and dear friends Billie Maxwell and Pete Germeraad.
She will be missed by her “Red Hat” and pinochle friends and all who knew her.
Upon her request, donations can be made to Bethel Congregational Church, Salvation Army, or Columbia Gorge Young Life.
A celebration of life was held Oct. 19, 2014, at Bethel Congregational Church in White Salmon.
