Andy (Andrew) McWhorter passed away Sept. 24, 2018, at his home in Hood River, Ore., from a heart attack. He was born on an Air Force base in England on May 30, 1963. Andy grew up in Portland, Ore., and graduated from Andrew Jackson High School. He went on to get a degree in fire science.
While living in Portland, he worked security at Nike Campus, was a reserve deputy at Clackamas County Sheriff’s Department and was a part time rodeo clown. In 1998, he moved to Hood River to manage a large Alpaca farm, with his now ex-wife and children.
He was employed at the local jail as a corrections officer for a few years and then became a fuel truck driver, which he genuinely enjoyed. Throughout Andrew’s life, he was an avid hunter; he loved fishing and being in the woods. Andy followed in his father’s footsteps by raising honey bees and giving away the most amazing honey. He was an ardent history buff and a collector of old maps, and he possessed a talent for carving wood and stone.
Andy was well known for playing practical jokes on his friends and family. He had a sense of humor that was contagious. Most of all, he adored spending time with his children and his dog, Yoda, usually driving or walking in the woods.
Every evening, Andy would find solitude by ending his day sitting outside on the property with his dog, feeding treats to his horse and goats, and watching the deer.
Andy is survived by his children, Ashley and Travis Tremblay; his brothers, David and Chris McWhorter; and his sister, Viveca Montgomery of Portland. He has extended family in Seattle, California and Illinois.
Services will be held on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 2 p.m. at the West Side Fire Department Station No. 1, 4250 Barrett Drive, Hood River.
