Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Allen Estel Jackson, “Al” to most of his friends, died at home in Cascade Locks, Ore., on Nov. 4, 2018.
Al was born in Fort Wayne, Ind., on July 9, 1926, and was 92 years-old at the time of his death. His wife, Marjorie, preceded him in death in 2013. He was the youngest and last surviving son of Charles and Lela Jackson. He is survived by his daughter, Jacqueline Buroker; grandchildren, Katie Randolph and Jacob Buroker; and four great-grandchildren, Ellis, Poppy, Molly and Jackson Randolph.
An Indiana farm boy, Al graduated high school prior to joining the navy near the end of World War II. Soon after the war ended, he met and married Marjorie. They resided in Hood River County through most of their 66 years of marriage.
Al was actively involved in the Elks, Lions and Masons. Throughout the years, he served those organizations in various capacities. He was dedicated to his lodges and lodge families, as well as the larger community. Al was known for his willingness to help and serve others and greeted all with a ready smile.
During his final years, Al chose to live at his own home with his little dog, Miles. He joked that his dog’s name was not Inches or Feet but ... Miles. Al and Miles enjoyed football, basketball and ice cream together as often as possible.
One’s life is difficult to encapsulate, but it can be said that Al was a happy man who enjoyed life and practiced a positive outlook. He will be missed by both family and community.
A memorial service will be held at the Cascade Locks Community Church, 5 S.W. Benson Ave., Cascade Locks, at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 11.
Arrangements are under the direction of Anderson’s Tribute Center (Funerals • Receptions • Cremations), 1401 Belmont Ave., Hood River, Ore. Visit www.AndersonsTributeCenter.com to leave a note of condolence for the family.
