Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
After a courageous battle with cancer, Alice Elaine Walters passed away at her home amidst her family and friends on June 21, 2013.
Elaine, as she was known to all, was born Aug. 23, 1946, in Prattville, Ala., to James Herbert Riley Jr. and Beryle Alice Donahoo-Riley. She grew up in McMinnville, Ore., and graduated from McMinnville High School. She later attended Northwest Christian College in Eugene where she met her husband, Theodore Walters, of Yamhill.
The couple wed in McMinnville at the First Christian Church on Sept. 10, 1965. They lived in Salem for two years, moved to Yamhill, and then to Salem. They spent the next 14 years in Hood River, and moved back to Yamhill to the family’s Century Farm for 28 years.
Along with her husband Ted, Elaine was a member of the Yamhill Christian Church, and as active as health permitted.
Elaine will forever be remembered by her husband, Ted Walters; her mother, Beryle Donahoo; her sister Eleanor Williams; her sister Colleen Greenwade, preceded; her beloved children, daughter and son-in-law Heather and Alex Novickis and son and daughter-in-law Kevin and Jessica Walters; treasured grandchildren Cyrus Lindsey, Nikklas Lindsey, Dmitri Novickis and Thomas Walters; along with countless other family and friends who were blessed to know her.
Elaine loved NASCAR, movies, playing the piano and singing, knitting, gardening, reading, laughing, being with family, having fun with friends, and her mission work.
Elaine loved knitting. Her passion was knitting sweaters, hats, booties and washcloths for children in various parts of the world. Some of the places included Kenya, Ecuador, Mexico, Texas, Ukraine and Yamhill County’s first-time parents.
Elaine has touched the lives of many people with her smile and generosity. Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of her life on July 13 at 11 a.m. at the Yamhill Christian Church.
The family would like to thank Newberg Providence Hospital and Hospice for their excellent care of Elaine, as well as our family and friends.
Potted plants are requested in lieu of cut flowers.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Operation Christmas Child at www.samaritans
