Hood River Police, Dec. 17 - 23
The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: DUII (three), driving while suspended (one), restraining order violation (one), theft (one), unlawful possession of a concealed firearm (one), warrant (two).
Notable incidents
Three DUII arrests. In one incident, a person was arrested on the charge of driving under the influence of alcohol. A subsequent breath test revealed a blood alcohol level over three times the legal limit. Another driver was stopped for driving under the influence of a controlled substance and later acknowledged fentanyl and methamphetamine usage.
Three theft reports. Shoplifting (two incidents) and theft from a workplace. In one incident, an employee was the subject of an internal investigation, as they would shop while off duty and manipulate the self-checkout so as to avoid paying for multiple items. Their partner was also involved in the theft of items on multiple occasions.
Two warrant arrests. In one incident, officers conducted a traffic stop which resulted in the arrest of the driver and a passenger. The driver was cited and later released for driving while suspended. The passenger was arrested and lodged at NORCOR for a non-local warrant.
Officers conducted a traffic stop on the interstate. The driver was found to be the respondent in a restraining order. The back-seat passenger initially provided a false name, but were later discovered to be the protected party in a local restraining order.
Officers cited a parent for leaving three young children unattended in a vehicle for longer than 15 minutes.
Officers responded to 13 alarm calls, of which five were at the same location and all false alarms.
The Dalles Police, Dec. 21 - 28
The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: Disorderly conduct (one), DUII (one), escape (one), harassment (one), parole / probation violation (two), theft (one), trespass (two), unauthorized use of motor vehicle (two), warrant (five).
Notable incidents
One vehicle crash report. A vehicle ran into the bridge walls on I-84. No injuries were reported. The vehicle sustained damage, a flat tire, and was leaking fluids. A significant amount of oil was spilled. ODOT was informed and the towing company helped clean the oil up.
One hit and run report. A reporting party stated the rear fender of their vehicle was damaged, with “pieces of a red vehicle” left at the scene. The "very damaged" suspect car appeared in front of another reporting party’s house, and was identified by that second caller.
Nine theft reports. Attempt to use stolen credit card (two incidents), flower arrangement from business, mountain bike, iPhone, shoplifting, license plate. In one incident, a surprise toll-bridge ticket from California alerted a vehicle owner to the fact that one of their plate was missing. In another, two vehicle on 14th Street were prowled and multiple items taken out of a Dodge Ram.
Two stolen vehicle reports. A truck was rented from a Sixth Street location and not returned. The vehicle was later located at Motel 6 and recovered, and the suspect issued a criminal summons. In a separate incident, a suspect entered an auto business on W. Second, took the keys to a maroon Subaru Baja off the counter, and stole the car. The employees had just been repairing the car and had requested the registered owner to pick it up a only moments before.
A Subaru, stolen out of Pendleton, appeared on G Street on Dec. 23, and was recovered.
Two burglary reports. In one incident, an overnight break-in at a First Street business was reported. Unknown persons had thrown a rock through the window, smashed a six-pack of beer, and taken two spray paint cans; the door and air compressor were spray-painted. Two different footprints were found in the dust inside and photographed. In another incident, a suspect entered a 10th Street business through a window over the weekend. A fire extinguisher was used and there was some damage.
Two vandalism reports. In one incident, a reporting party with Wasco County PUD advised that a customer had reported an outage on West Second on the morning of Dec. 27; when the crew responded, they found several PUD meters had been pulled out of the ground. The meters were stood back up in order to restore power. The back window to the associated business was broken out, but no entry made. In another incident, a vehicle’s windshield was damaged.
A criminal mischief report was taken for a newly-bought vehicle, with windows broken and doors damaged.
Twenty-one mental health calls.
Twelve animal calls. Dogs at large, alleged attempted dog bite, small dog “going crazy” inside fence. In one incident, an owner was cited for a barking dog issue. In another incident, three pigs were reported tearing up a yard on McDonald Way. The pigs were scared from the yard, and thereafter at large in the neighborhood until their abandoner arrived to “wrangle them.”
A report was taken for found drugs regarding blue pills found at an Oak Street location and turned in to police.
A report was taken for a restraining order violation.

Oregon State Police, Dec. 20 - 28
The following are crimes which resulted in arrest: driving while suspended or revoked (one), DUII (two), reckless driving (one), warrant (one).
Notable incidents
Eleven non-injury crash reports. Multiple crashes involved icy roads, slush, or freezing rain; multiple logs noted vehicles driving too fast for conditions and losing control. In one incident, a black Toyota Corolla lost control on the slushy freeway, slid across both lanes, spun backwards, went off the embankment and struck a large rock. It then spun around and came to rest facing west on the shoulder. The driver was not injured. In another incident, a driver served and struck a guardrail, after blowing a front tire. In another incident, a white Mercedes ran out of gas and stopped, partially blocking a lane on I-84. The driver made no attempt to call emergency services and left on foot. A commercial truck then the sideswiped the van. The driver of the Mercedes was located on foot, transported back to the scene, issued citation, and provided with fuel by ODOT. In another incident, a vehicle lost control on black ice on Highway 35 near milepost 66, left the roadway, and rolled. The driver was transported to a clinic for minor injuries. In a fourth incident, a 28-year-old Portland driver, southbound on US 197 just south of Tygh Valley, was accelerating up the hill in the shade when their Honda Accord fishtailed in the icy passing lane. They lost control, slid across both lanes and slammed into the embankment. The Honda went up onto the embankment, then slammed down onto the left side, coming to rest facing west. All side airbags deployed. The driver was belted and uninjured. The vehicle was towed. In a fifth incident, a Kia Soul on Highway 197 struck a deer.
In an incident on Dec. 25, a Good Samaritan stopped on the shoulder of a highway and was running back to check on another vehicle crash in the area when a second vehicle, driving too fast for conditions, lost control. It slid across both lanes and rear-ended the Good Samaritan. Both vehicles were towed.
Two crashes involving injuries. A handgun, bullets, magazine and holster were seized as evidence from a vehicle which was stopped for speeding 87 mph in a 65 mph zone.
