On Sept. 11, the 15th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the east coast, volunteers and paid staff of the City of Hood River Fire and EMS donned turnouts and tanks and did a commemorative stair climb starting at Overlook Memorial Park at Second and State. Stair climbs are carried out annually by fire agencies in tribute to the emergency and law enforcement personnel and other victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. After a brief ceremony at the fountain plaza, where flags were at half-staff, the group headed up the 416 steps. See page A4 for an editorial on First Responder Week, Sept, 21-27.
