THE GORGE — Two star softball players represented the Gorge at the Maddi Higgins All Star game in West Linn, Oregon. The Dalles’ senior shortstop Maddie Brock and Hood River senior pitcher Grace Rowan were selected to play in the showcase. The Maddi Higgins All Star game is a fundraiser put on by Mike Higgins and his family after losing his daughter to an intoxicated driver. Maddi was a two-time all-state softball player.
“It’s great to be a part of a cause that’s bigger than ourselves,” said Brock. “The game honors the hard-working athletes who are present, along with the softball lovers who lost their lives.”
Brock hit a home run in the game and was named the inaugural Jami Strinz Most Valuable Player (MVP). Strinz coached the Umpqua Community College softball team and passed away in April.
Rowan went 1-for-1 at the plate and pitched four innings for the North Team, who won 6-5.
“It was fun to play with girls we’ve played against for years and it such an awesome cause for the softball community,” Rowan said.
