THE GORGE — Lyle/Wishram, guided by fifth-year Coach Dave Devoe, steamrolled the Country Christian High Cougars (0-2 SD3, 1-5 overall), 92-26, at home in Special District 3 eight-man football Oct. 11.
The 92 points represented the highest point total that any team has scored this year in the 22-member 1A eight-man football classification. The previous high was by North Douglas (6-0) in 90-6 road win at Riddle on Sept. 26.
“The beauty about this game was that all of our younger guys played in the second half,” said Devoe. “They work hard in practice, so it was nice to have them get some playing time.
“Country Christian is an inexperienced team, but they’re working hard and they’re doing some good things. They have some good athletes, and they have a good scheme, but they just don’t have enough experience … they’ll get there.”
Country Christian in Molalla resumed its football program for the first time since 2010.
Lyle/Wishram built a 68-12 halftime lead, scoring on every offensive possession. Junior running back Carson Ramsay led the Cougars with 494 yards on offense. Carson Ramsay had 19 carries for 368 yards rushing and six touchdown runs; it marked his third game of more than 300 yards rushing. He also had four catches for 126 yards receiving and three touchdown receptions. Carson’s brother, sophomore quarterback Mason Ramsay, was 8-for-13 passing for 87 yards and four touchdowns.
“Mason played a great game,” said Devoe. “Carson had a great game, too ... Shae Jackson did a really good job for us, too.”
Jackson, a senior running, had five carries for 135 yards rushing and three touchdowns. Senior running back and first-year player, Michael Speakthunder, scored the first touchdown of his career.
Lyle hosts Dufur on Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. “We’re looking forward to Friday’s game against Dufur,” said Devoe. “It’s kind of looking like it’s going to be a game that will probably decide the league championship. We’re feeling pretty positive about the way we’re playing right now. We’re executing well offensively and we’re playing tough defense, too.”
