A trio of Hood River Valley High Eagles capped their spring sports seasons by competing in the OSAA Class 5A Golf State Championships May 13-14.
In the 5A girls tournament at Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis, HRV junior Kristin Fox shot 48 on the front nine and 53 on the back nine for a first round score of 101. On day two, Fox lowered her score while shooting a 49 on both the front and back nines for a personal-best score of 98. Her overall score of 199 placed her 30th out of 57 golfers. Fox was participating in the state tournament for the first time.
“Kristin played consistently well both days and she competed until the very last putt dropped. She is a class act and she represented Hood River Valley High School very well in Corvallis,” said Coach Mark Bauman.
HRV juniors John Olsen and Davis Kerr played in the 5A boys tourney May 13 at Quail Valley Golf Course in Banks. Olsen, competing in the event for the first time, shot 41-43 for an 18-hole score of 84 on the first day. On day two, Olsen shot 83 for an overall score of 167.
Kerr, who was competing at state for a third straight year, shot identical nine-hole scores of 46 for an 18-hole 92. The second day, Kerr shot a three-over-par 39 on the front nine, followed by a 47 on the back, for an 86 and overall score of 178. That tied him for 43rd place.
The Eagles, who were seventh in the state tourney in 2019, will return Davis and Olsen to the team next season.
“At the end of the day, I know John and Davis will both be back at state next year,” Mason said.
