HOOD RIVER — The slump continued last week for the No. 14-ranked Hood River Valley High Eagles, who have lost three of their past four girls soccer games and have fallen to eighth place in the nine-team Northwest Oregon Conference standings (NWOC).
The Eagles (0-2-1 NWOC, 5-3-2 overall) lost an Oct. 7 nonleague home game 4-0 to the Class 6A Cleveland High Warriors (4-7). The Eagles followed with a NWOC 2-0 home loss Oct. 9 to the La Salle Prep Falcons (2-1 NWOC, 3-5-1 overall).
The Eagles are seeking to snap their three-game NWOC winless streak, in a 7:30 p.m. contest versus the Centennial High Eagles (1-2-1 NWOC, 3-5-2 overall) on Oct. 15 in Gresham. HRV, which entered the week with five games remaining on its regular season schedule, are scheduled to play Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. at home versus the Parkrose High Broncos (1-2 NWOC, 2-5-1 overall).
The Eagles probably need to win at least three of their remaining games in order to reach the OSAA state playoffs for the first time since 2019. The top four NWOC squads automatically qualify for the 16-team playoffs beginning Nov. 6. If the Eagles don’t finish in the top four, they could possibly qualify with one of the two at-large berths afforded to 5A schools.
