HOOD RIVER — Hood River Valley’s (HRV) baseball team will travel to Bend’s Summit High for the first round of the OSAA Class 5A state baseball playoffs against the storm on May 27.
Coach Max Reitz’s Eagles finished the regular season 15-11 overall and in fourth place in the Northwest Oregon Conference (NWOC) with a 10-6 record. HRV had lost six straight games before finishing the regular season on a four-game winning streak.
The streak continued this past week with three NWOC wins: 11-1 on May 20 vs. Hillsboro (which clinched HRV a state playoff berth); 4-0 a day later vs. Centennial (senior night); and 6-2 on May 23 at Centennial.
“This was a hard-fought series with Centennial and give Coach (Bobby) Craswell and his kids a ton of credit for playing so hard at the end of what has been a tough year for them,” Reitz said. “In game one, I think we had a bit of a letdown after clinching the playoff spot the night before, but Addy picked us up with seven dominant innings in the mound.”
Addison Postlewait threw a three-hitter, striking out 10 and walking one. He received offensive support from Kingston McAdam, who was 2-for-2 at the plate, and Bodie Stuben, who contributed a double and knocked in two runs.
The second game in Gresham was knotted through six innings. HRV starting pitcher Maverick Hockett meandered his way through four walks, three hits, and struck out 10 before tiring in the sixth when Centennial tied the game, 2-2. That set the plate for Davis Parr, who delivered the knockout blow in the top of the seventh.
“Another great ballgame to watch. Close, good pitching, and both teams playing hard,” said Reitz. “Hockett did a great job of working out of some jams and really competed. Then to have one of our senior leaders in Davis Parr ice it with a grand slam in a 2-2 game, top of the seventh, what can you say.”
“Both Postlewait and Parr have been amazing for us all year long and we will really miss them next year,” he continued.
But first, there’s some playoff business on the horizon. Hood River, ranked No. 12 in the final OSAA ranking, plays a Summit team that was second in the Intermountain Conference with a 12-3 record (19-6 overall).
Hood River returns to the playoffs after missing out on the postseason in 2024. The Eagles were part of a competitive conference this season, including the state’s first, third, sixth, tweflth, and fifteenth- ranked teams in the final 5A rankings and 16-team playoff bracket.
