THE DALLES — The Dalles High Riverhawks won their third straight Tri-Valley Conference volleyball match, 3-0, over visiting Gladstone on Sept. 25.
The Riverhawks’ victory followed a 3-0 road win Sept. 23 at Madras. The Riverhawks are in first place in the league and the only unbeaten team in the six-team TVC standings.
The Riverhawks (3-0 TVC, 7-3 overall) dominated the Gladstone match, 25-2, 25-10, 25-11.
The Dalles Coach Teresa Morris said the winning margin was not surprising because Gladstone is rebuilding its program. “They’re in the middle of trying to build a program and sometimes it just takes a while to do that,” she said. “It feels pretty good to be in first place in the league and we’re hoping to stay there all season.”
The Riverhawks won the 2022 TVC title and finished second behind the defending league champion Crook County High Cowgirls last year.
The Riverhawks were led offensively by freshman Jazzy Morris-Holmes. The Dalles’ sophomore setter Morgan Donivan had a strong overall performance, serving five consecutive third-set points, including the match point at 24-10.
Senior Laci Hoylman said the team is focusing on advancing to the playoffs for a third straight season. “We definitely have the potential to possibly win the league title this year,” she said. “If we continue playing with a high intensity level and maintain our momentum all season, then I think we’ll win the league championship.
The Riverhawks beat Tillamook 3-0 in a Sept. 28 nonleague match. The Cheesemakers (3-3 Cowapa League, 8-5 overall) were a 2023 state quarterfinalist squad.
