Hood River Valley’s boys golf team finished fourth in its April 15 Northwest Oregon Conference match at Forest Hills Golf Course west of Hillsboro, but the Eagles remained in third place in the league standings with two weeks of regular season matches remaining.
The upcoming schedule includes an April 29 home match at Indian Creek in Hood River.
The second- through fourth-place teams in the NWOC qualify for the May 6-7 regional tournament at Aspen Lakes Golf Course in Sisters. The six-team tourney will also include the second- through fourth-place teams from the Intermountain Conference. The top two teams from regionals qualify for the 2024 Class 5A state tournament.
HRV Coach Erin Mason said a win by HRV at a three-team non-league tourney in Heppner on April 19, “provides some much-needed momentum as we look to the post season.” Hood River is in third place in the NWOC, with Canby a close fourth. La Salle and Wilsonville are tied for first place. Mason said his team is in a solid position to qualify for the regional tourney.
At Heppner, John Olsen was medalist with a 5-over 65; teammate Davis Kerr was third, shooting a 68, and Aiden Willis shot 72 for fifth place. Hood River won over Riverside and La Grande.
Olsen shot a 2-over 74 in the April 15 league match; Kerr was HRV’s No. 2 with an 83.
