WHITE SALMON — Columbia’s Razo Salazar (215 pounds) and Matthias Posini (285 pounds) each placed second in their weight brackets at the 2025 Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) Sub District 4 1A Trico wrestling championship Feb. 8 at LaCenter High School.
Columbia finished fourth as a team with 149 points; Castle Rock won the team crown with 294.5.
Salazar scored 20 team points, winning his first-round match by fall over Caden Harbaugh of Stevenson, and his semifinal match by fall over Sam Smith of Castle Rock.
Posini, who scored 19 team points, had a first-round bye and won by fall over Jojo Villalobos of Castle Rock in the semifinals.
Columbia had nine other placers, led by Everett Coyner. He lost in the 165-pound semifinals but won his final two matches to place third and score 18 team points.
Giovanni Ruiz placed fourth at 126 pounds, winning two of four wrestled matches. At 157, Holden Uffelman placed fourth, winning his first match before losing in the semifinals. Uffelman bounced back with a win by pin in the consolation round before losing in the third-place match.
At 132, Wyatt Pulido won two of four matches to place fifth. Robert Grabb IV won three of five matches and placed fifth at 150; Grabb IV edged teammate Ezekial Carl in the fifth-sixth match, 13-7. Carl also won three matches for the Bruins. Colt Calloway won two of four matches to place fifth at 165, Teammate Juan Cortes was fifth at 175, beating teammate Lyle Grose in the fifth-sixth match.
Also competing for the Bruins at district were Leland Beyer (144); Logan Going (144); and Porter Simms (157).
Five CHS wrestlers qualified for the 2025 state tourney; four other Bruin wrestlers are a win away from qualifying for state. The first four place finishers in each weight class automatically qualified for the Mat Classic on Feb. 21 at the Tacoma Dome. The fifth-place finisher in each weight class will wrestle the fourth-place finisher from the 1A Evergreen Tournament on Feb. 15 in Montesano. The winner of that match will qualify for Mat Classic.
