THE GORGE — Sherman and Dufur are on course for a Big Sky League volleyball matchup Oct. 5 that could have district playoff ramifications. The two teams entered this week with 3-2 conference records and remained in solid contention for two of the six district playoff spots. They will play Saturday in a match at Lyle High School.
Dufur (7-8 overall) won 3-0 on Sept. 24 at home over Horizon Christian (0-6 league, 1-16 overall). The Rangers played in a three-team match on Sept. 28 in Dufur, and they won 3-1 over Lyle, followed by a 3-1 loss to the Ione/Arlington High Cardinals (5-1 league, 13-4 overall).
Sherman (6-7 overall) won two-of-three matches last week. The Huskies started out with a close, 3-2, loss to the Spray/Mitchell/Wheeler High Falcons (4-0 league, 12-1 overall) on Sept. 24 at Sherman High in Moro. The Huskies bounced back and won 3-1 over Condon Sept. 26 at home, followed by a 3-0 win over Horizon on Sept. 28 in Fossil.
Redsides continue to lead
The No. 18-ranked South Wasco County High Redsides won three Big Sky League games last week to extend their win streak to six. The Redsides (6-0 league, 13-5 overall) and Spray are the remaining two teams unbeaten in league matches. They’re scheduled to play Oct. 19 at Sherman High.
South Wasco’s Bailey Udey (17 kills, 14 digs), Hailee Pechanec (17 kills) and Jayda Iverson (six kills, 15 digs) helped lead the Redsides to a win last week at Dufur. Tayler Brittain (seven digs) helped lead the Redsides to a win over Klickwood.
South Wasco plays Oct. 3 at Lyle/Wishram, which won two-of-four matches last week, including a 3-1 home win over Klickwood on Sept. 25, and a 3-1 win Sept. 26 over Horizon Christian in Hood River.Â
