HOOD RIVER — The Hood River 11U Whitecaps started their tournament season in a big way this past weekend, playing in the Kennewick Kick Off with nine other teams.
The boys started off with a big win over The Grant County Thunder, 15-2, followed by a 10-3 loss to The Willamette Spikes out of Salem.
This put the boys as a second seed in the Gold bracket for Sunday, March 2.
The Whitecaps’ offense and defense took control for the rest of the weekend.
The boys beat Caldera from Bend 14-2. Then they beat Eastern Oregon Baseball Club (EOBC) 9-8 in an exciting game. Their win over the EOBC placed them into the championship against the team that beat them on Saturday: The Willamette Spikes.
The boys jumped out early but Willamette came back and tied it up in the bottom of the 5th inning, 8-8.
In the top of the 6th inning the boys put up four runs and shut down the Spikes offense in the bottom half for the big win, 12-8. Big hitting and fantastic pitching was the highlight for the weekend.
