Skamania County Board of Commissioners, Aug. 11 — A new interim public health officer is expected to take the reins in both Skamania and Clark counties; Dr. Alan Melnick retired after 13 years in that joint role. Funding uncertainty for the popular Forest Youth Services program remains, as Skamania County commissioners discussed at their Aug. 11 meeting. White Salmon Tree Board, Aug. 10 — After months of work, the tree board will suggest changes to the city’s tree ordinance at the Sept. 2 city council meeting, including a proposed list of fees that developers would pay if they don’t replace trees they cut down. Board members are interested in swales for stormwater control, and they are aiming for a giant oak to become the first local Heritage Tree. From Documenter Caroline Elliot.
