Merkley: “The world’s failure to fully monitor and account for the methane emission from oil and gas production means that the situation is almost surely even more dire than scientists predict and erodes any climate benefits that liquefied fossil gas (LNG) might bring.”

Washington, D.C. – Today, Nov. 29, as COP28 gets underway, Oregon’s U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley is urging the U.S. to strengthen its climate leadership by moving away from a path of liquefied fossil gas (LNG) exports that intensify climate chaos, undermine the transparency and accountability that are essential to a workable agreement, and weaken U.S. global credibility.
