Hood River Adopt A Dog invites the community to its biggest fundraiser of the year, Paws & Pints, on Friday, May 29, for an evening of live music, food, drinks, raffles, silent auction packages, and community fun — all in support of dogs in need across the Gorge.
The event will feature music from DJ Phil In The Blank and Quick & Easy Boys. Kids 12 and under are free. While the event celebrates our love of dogs, dogs are not permitted at the event venue.
Paws & Pints is critical to helping Hood River Adopt A Dog continue its mission of rescuing, sheltering, and caring for vulnerable dogs throughout Hood River County. The nonprofit also provides community support programs to help local families keep and care for their pets during difficult times.
With an annual operating budget of approximately $400,000, the organization is facing increasing financial pressure as grant funding has declined and community need continues to rise due to inflation, rising gas prices, and job loss. Hood River Adopt A Dog does not receive government operating support and relies primarily on grants, donations, fundraising events, and community partnerships to continue serving local dogs.
The shelter itself was made possible through the Hukari Fund, a generous bequest from the Hukari family that helped build the facility. Hood River County leases the shelter property to the organization for $1 per year, but all shelter operations are managed and funded by Hood River Adopt A Dog, a nonprofit led by a volunteer board of directors.
“We are incredibly grateful for the support of our community, local businesses, sponsors, donors, and volunteers,” said Lorraine Lyons, executive director of Hood RIver Adopt A Dog. “We truly could not do this work without them. Every ticket purchased, sponsorship, donation, and auction bid helps us continue caring for dogs and supporting families throughout the Gorge.”
Community members are encouraged to attend, donate, bid in the auction, or become sponsors to help ensure local dogs continue receiving the care and support they need.
